A Toast to my Grandma...

...to lefse every Thanksgiving (except the time I forgot it in the back of the car and two months later had a pink, yellow, orange, green science project)

...to purple Arctic Cat hats and "Blowing the stink off"

...to canned ravioli, Tombstone canadian bacon pizzas, apple crisp, ice cream soup, and the saltiest ham gravy you'll ever have

...to Blackie the cat and pie tins full of bread and milk and potato peelings

...to the electric toothbrush with the blue and yellow and red brushes

...to playing beauty parlor and letting me put curlers in your hair every night I stayed over

...to mornings in bed with stories of my father as a child

...to that little blue elephant bath toy with the ears that propelled it through the water

...to "tears in my beer" and Beer Barrel Polkas

...to puppet shows at the camper and all the times you paid a quarter to watch them

...to Fe Fi Fo Fum and Rummy and Uno and Speed

...to hardened lemon drops and gum drops and those cookies with the stripes

...to a woman who without a doubt was 100% German and passed it on to me

Ninety years isn't a bad ride at all. Prost!

Oh, my . . .

". . . the saltiest ham gravy you'll ever have"

I just drooled on my shirt. How pathetic. Ninety years is a good ride. Especially with salty ham gravy.
