Continuation of story? Sure.
This computer science teacher proceeded to tell me that she was having her final at the time the university gave her. Yeah, and she was really snotty when she said that. So, choking back the angry, sarcastic comment I wanted to make, I calmly told her that I was having my final at the time the university gave me as well. I explained how I had the "special section" final time. Then I told her that for my final students were giving group presentations and other people were relying on him to be there. I explained how it couldn't really be made up, not like her written final that merely requires a toss into the scantron machine (and somehow these teachers make the same as us English folk who spend hours drudging through poorly written research papers). She let me know that her class was in my student's major, and implied how it was more important than my class. Then she told me that said student would just have to decide which final was more important.

Seriously, who thinks their class is more important than any other. I've told my students several times that I don't believe my class is any better than their others. Who is so unwilling to compromise? And these people are the examples for freshmen on this campus. No wonder one of my students wrote: "Casey is different from all other teachers. She actually cares about her students and how they're doing. She obviously really enjoys what she does." Yes, yes I do wonderful student of mine. This student (the writing looked female) didn't sign her letter, so I can't beam at her during their final tomorrow, but when I have a moment I will certainly compare it to the handwriting on some of their other papers they've turned in.

Back to original point: If I'm ever a tenured faculty member, I will retain my coolness and not be a pretentious bitch.
